    RUHANGA DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL                              MAY 2017

Hello to all our friends and supporters,

I hope you all had a good Easter and made the most of all the public holidays to plan your next trip overseas.  For those considering coming out to Uganda to volunteer at our school or medical centre and enjoy a safari with our Director Denis, now is a good time to book. I am finding return flights from London to Entebbe starting at under £330. Coupled with £105 per week full board and a very cheap bar bill, Africa can be a relatively low-cost holiday destination.

Volunteers who have booked to go out in the coming months are fundraising so we  are now able to continue building two additional classrooms to accommodate more of many children asking to join our school.  Two of our classes have over 70 children and this is not ideal as the rooms are too cramped and several children share one desk.

We will soon have nearly enough to complete the walls and roof, but it doesn’t end there. The classrooms need cement and sand for the floors and interior walls, metal work for the windows and doors, electricity, paint and desks and shelves. This is where I ask if you can help us? Will you make a one-off donation here on our BT donation page or alternatively create your own fundraising page and invite all your friends to support our classroom build? A few pounds here and there will help so many children get a good education for many years to come, and with our small charity ALL your money will go out to Ruhanga.

I recently registered our charity with Easyfundraising and at no extra cost to the few people who have already joined, we have raised almost £100 commission in just a short while. If you ever purchase anything online please join by clicking on this link  and save your login page as a favourite. Then each time you buy something  through one of the supported websites, such as Ebay, Amazon, Expedia, John Lewis, a donation will be made directly to us. There is even an App to shop automatically from your smartphone.

Some of our fundraisers have come up with other new suggestions such as selling lottery tickets and “Your School Lottery” has agreed we can raise funds for ‘Ruhanga Development School’ even though its not in the UK!  For just £1 a week you can have the chance to win £25,000. Out of your £1 our charity will receive 40p, and much of the rest is given back as prize money every week. If just 50 people sign up, we will earn an extra £1,000 in a year and YOU may WIN £25,000. This is an ideal fundraiser for everyone who buys a weekly lottery ticket & the odds are much better than the National Lotteries. See https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk – click ‘Play Now’ and enter RUHANGA DEVELOPMENT.  Register soon and you will enter the first draw on 27th May

On Saturday 13th May some volunteers are holding a Family Fun Day at The Hogarth Pub, 58 BroadSt, Teddington (West of London) so if you are in the area between 11am and 6pm  why not come down and support them.  For more information on the event click here. I will be there most of the day with lots of photos and would love to chat or answer any questions you might have.

Many Thanks to all who have supported us over the past months

Ann McCarthy & Denis Aheirwe
